Before the World Wars, Budapest was on equal footing with Paris - one east, one west. This was certainly evident looking down Andrassy Utca, colonnaded with trees in spring green, lined with huge homes - now embassies, galleries, stores, cafes, and monuments leading to Hero Square, all reminiscent of the Champs Élysées. Esther, our wonderful guide today, got us here by metro to begin our walk down this broad avenue. After 33 hours of basically staying awake and a good night sleep, we are ready to explore!
