A day on the autostrade with the GPS, lunch at the small westernmost Lake Orta, and turning north, we arrived at Cannobio on the northwestern shore of Lake Maggiore, five miles from the Swiss border. This small town is quiet, charming, laid back, and just picturesque. The tourists, mostly German and Italian, are here to relax, eat, shop a little, and take in this gorgeous lake. At Hotel Pironi, our balcony, with it's lake view, has become my favorite writing spot. Tom and I will sorely miss Cannobio.
