The Opera

Tuesday April 30

The State Opera House in Budapest was built to rival those of Paris, Vienna and Dresden. Dressed in our best, we made our way under frescoed ceilings, magnificent chandeliers and up the grand staircase to our private box with it's own door. Yes, Csilla had treated us - Tom, Esther and me - to a wonderful performance of the beautiful, but tragic "Madame Butterfly". Images from "'Memoir of a Geisha" and "Anna Karenina" came to mind. During intermission on the terrace balcony out front, we raised our glasses of champagne in a toast to the magical city of Budapest!
