Switzerland celebrates Ascension Day with a holiday, so all the stores were closed. After taking the funicular down to the square, we window shopped Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Rolex, etc. on our way to Santa Maria degli Angioli (1490). A very simple church from the outside, inside the Luini paintings were amazing. We have found that in exploring the churches, we are seeing the art where it was commissioned and designed to be seen. In Luini's "Last Supper", I found Mary Magdelene sitting at Jesus's right hand very moving, while the "Passion and Crucifixion" was overwhelming in size and detail. Even the floor tiles were beautiful.
