Thursday May 2
The crowds in St. Mark's, umbrellas fending off the drizzle, were a little much, so, map in hand, we found the Gallerie dell'Academia for our history of Venetian painting. Tintoretto, Bellini, Tiepolo, Carpaccio paintings, huge wall size, larger than life frescos gave us a sense of Venice in it's 16th century heyday. A wrong turn on the way home and we were lost like in every story about Venice I have read. Finally back at the hotel, we changed and headed out again for dinner. At 8:30pm, we were almost the first to arrive, choosing a table under the wisteria draped arbor. A glass of limoncello topped a wonderful baked flounder Italian style- capers, olives, tomatoes- at Fontego dei Pescatori.
