The slow ferry up the lake to Bellagio stopped at towns on both sides of the lake with views of impressive villas, one of which is said to belong to George Clooney. Bellagio was touristy, with a lot more money and cars than we had expected. Our walk quickly got us out of downtown into the environs. We enjoyed the fishing village of Pescallo, on the eastern arm of the lake and walked through the area known as Oliveiro for it's olive trees, to Villa Giulia. Renovating the villa in the 1700s, Count Venini cut a swarth across the peninsula, flattening it into a broad green avenue, so that Giulia could see across to the western arm of the lake. We walked down this Vialone, and up to the vista at Suira. We hopped a fence behind an old villa for a picnic and then down to Guggiate and San Giovanni, before heading back toward Bellagio. We love our little town of Torno even more now!
